Adrienne of Crafty Little Gnome shares how to build a polymer clay incense holder. The rose shape is clever and you could obviously use all sorts of decorative techniques for the clay part. I think it would look super with a little metal leafing on the petal edges and translucent clay petals.
Bake it for longer than she mentions. Sculpey 3 and CraftSmart clay says 15 mins per 1/4″ thickness but the center nub is a round ball and the petals are thinner and would benefit by the extra strength a longer curing time provides.
