Because extruders crank out perfectly even elements it’s not surprising people use them to create canes, particularly canes that require precision such as quilt, repeating tile patterns or “pixel” image ones. These canes rely on lines matching up and extruders are great for that. Jenny Patterson of Quilted in Clay, for example, has a whole line of quilt themed jewellery that she sells at shows around the US. One of the nicest polymer clayers out there and one of the first I met online, years ago. She has an example of an Ohio Star cane on her site that you can download instructions for.
Another example of a quilt or quilt-inspired cane is this great trapezoid pattern one by Marese (English translation here). It reminds me a little of a great tumbling block pattern.
