Today is Diwali, the festival of lights, and my small town has a community event for it at the multicultural centre. There will be lots of diyas or lights / lamps there. Making tiny votive holders is one of those great crafts you can do with clay, including polymer clay. The tutorial on this page describes how to do a basic cover from terra cotta or air drying clay but you can make one from polymer the same way. I’ve also covered glass dishes or glass votive holders with polymer and used them with real candles although, these days, I am a big fan of the little LED candles. You can usually find them inexpensively at the dollar store or places like Walmart.
Looking for air-drying clay? We highly recommend Das Air dry clay, we have been using this product for over 30 years. Check out their Das White Air drying clay and their Terracotta Air drying clay version for a natural pottery feel. For larger crafts we recommend buying your air drying clay in bulk
