A well done faux marble made with Fimo polymer clay looks just like the real deal. Especially with a good sanding and buffing. It makes great dollhouse mini details as well as pieces where marble would be convincing – insets for vanity items, some jewellery. This video tutorial is from Iris Mishly, a prolific clay artist who also makes a ton of great videos and instructional materials you can find on the site this video is at.
If you haven’t got a mixer you want to use with clay you can do like I once did and get a tiny (1 or 2 cup) food processor. Mine was $10, brand new and helped me chop up a bunch of very old Fimo, one cup at a time. It was slow but it worked.
If you’re using a softer clay, toss it in the freezer before you chop. It’ll stay in more distinct crumbs and pieces as you work.
