Polymer is a pretty great jump right in medium if you want to try making cake toppers. For best practice, make the base of your topper something that is more food safe than clay (clay isn’t topic but it’s not easy to sterilize and chips or breaks comparatively easily) such as a neatly cut piece of aluminum cake board.
