I’m an oven bake polymer clay girl but long ago, for the rare treat, my favourite sitter would make us a batch of salt dough. We’d cut up shapes and bake them. Decorating them was so much fun. Turns out, everyone still does this and the internet is full of recipes for a good salt dough. I’m posting one such recipe but there are a pile of comments and suggestions on it, including baking at a lower temperature to reduce puffing or adding a little extract to scent your ornaments.
Either way, these look like the clay ornaments of my childhood. If you want to do this with regular oven bake polymer clay, on a large, economical scale, pick up a box of white Sculpey at the store. The stuff is perfect for this sort of craft and doesn’t crunch up and dry mid craft like I remember salt dough doing.
