I’m a fan of Model Magic – it feels nice, it’s inexpensive, easy to work with and it’s fun to paint or use markers on after. You can add pipe cleaners, googly eyes, stick on gems and all sorts of other media. Basically, it’s fabulous kids modeling material. This California poppy project, by Chelsey of BuggyAndBuddy, makes a pretty great and yet simple flower with Model Magic.
Where I live you rarely see California poppies. Instead, you find red ones everywhere – they self seed all over my gardens – and I’d be tempted to make one of those for my poppy project. A sort of bonus is the red poppies everyone wears or uses as a memorial for veterans on Remembrance Day a little later in November.
If you wanted to do this project with oven bake clay, you’d do the flower form and then bake it in the jar or a small bowl or muffin cup to give it the shape.
