One of the projects every clayer should do is cover a pen. I did scads of covered Bic stick and Papermate pens and, later, a few pen kits like the ones in this tutorial. They take Cross type pen refills and make great gifts. In addition to Penn State Industries (as recommended by The Chilly Dog), you can get pen kits at Lee Valley and sometimes your local hobby and model shops. Ebay can be a good source, as well. For simple stick pens… you can sometimes get the right type of disposable pens at Walmart. You’ll want to try baking your pen, minus the ink cartridge, in the oven before you cover it.
The Chilly Dog’s tutorial uses an extruder and some neatly done cutting to get their pen perfect. This style saves on having to sand and polish up the pen which is an absolute bonus in my mind.
