The canes I get asked about the most often are the big, complex ones. Some of my favourites to do are faces and butterflies but another form is a landscape cane. There’s a great exploration of a landscape cane on Parole de Paté (itself a fabulous resources for all things polymer clay). As with many of the bigger canes I do, they use a component method. Each part of the larger cane is a smaller cane and you add the pieces together filling with simpler colours for flat areas or plugs of blends for shaded areas.
Sue Heaser’s book The Encyclopedia of Polymer Clay Techniques also has a really great tutorial on making a landscape cane.
