As I’ve mentioned before I’m a big fan of clay. Mostly, that’s polymer clay but I’ve played with a lot of other varieties of clays – ceramics, air dry, model magic, paper clay… all sorts of good stuff. This tutorial uses Laguna’s Ovencraft clay which seems to be a low fire earth clay. Low fire in this case is still much hotter than polymer clay but well within a regular oven’s range.
The tutorial has a great description of how to do a face sculpt for the greenman type design. If you choose to do the project in polymer clay instead you could embellish with canes or use coloured clays instead of paint of course. And if the face sculpting part is not for you push molds work great with both earth clays and polymer ones.Looking for air-drying clay? We highly recommend Das Air dry clay, we have been using this product for over 30 years.
