Canes are a really powerful concept in polymer clay but the technique itself can be so simple. Literally anything you take slices off of can be a cane and this tutorial by Leah Fisch (hosted by Polymer Clay Central, still a great beginner clay resource) demonstrates that. Pick colours you like with enough contrast that reducing them won’t blur them visually.
For the spiral form of the crazy cane you can add a sheet of black or some other contrast colour to your spiral to give the crazy layer extra specialness. Make the plain colour thinner than the layer of crazy colour and then roll the two together.
