Some of the easiest clay beads to make are single cane slice beads. You make a cane, reduce it to the diameter you want your disk bead to be and cut a slice a little under 1/4″ thick (I aim for 4 or 5mm). And some of the best canes for this sort of bead are variations on the basic spirals, stripes and bullseyes. Use bright fun colours contrasted with black and white for a graphic statement like Karen’s in her tutorial or use black and white for a classic monochromatic look or go with lighter and darker values of a hue for a more subtle approach.
You can combine your cane slice bead with simple round beads in complimentary colours and create whole necklaces of custom beads fairly efficiently. Or slice your canes thinly and use them to cover base beads. Lots of possibilities with good, basic canes. Looking for more polymer clay texture tools
