This project is clever both for the box making and the fairly realistic clay gear making. You could use the same idea for any sort of box you’d like – not necessarily heart related – and your choice of ornamentation would absolutely change the impact. A wooden box with black iron gears? An faded jewelry box with rusted metal parts? Instructables has a lot of pretty great clay projects.
One note: the instructions mention baking for 20 minutes at 230F. I would say bake at the temperature for your clay… and do more than 20 minutes. 20 minutes makes me nervous for how structurally strong your piece would be.
