Pastels are super popular in the clay world the last few years for all sorts of surface effects. Page McNall has a quick picture tutorial of how to use pastels, texture and scrap clay to make interesting sheets of polymer clay veneer you can then use to build pendants and other goodies.
You can use paints, micas and inks in the same way here and mix and match those with the pastels. I recommend that you use some sort of clear coat over these after baking, if you use the sheets in jewellery. Some of the materials rub off a little and no one likes sparkle or coloured dusts on their clothes.
