Way back when I had started claying online, one of the first tutorials I tried was Desiree McCrory’s. It was fairly new at the time and I have made a lot of swirly beads since then. I haven’t done too many of these but they’re a neato variation on it if you haven’t tried.
I admit I mostly use swirlies to use up scrap clay batches but you can get much nicer results by using at least some intelligence about colour picks. I do better if I mix my cane scrap crumbs with a base colour to give the spiral design something to stand out from. Or using slices right off Skinner blends or canes to swirl against a background colour.
