I live on the Canadian prairies. Every stereotype of big, open, flat spaces is true. And it’s windy. On the best of days it’s a light breeze pushing perfect puffy clouds around in the famed Big Sky. Days like yesterday, there are 120+ km/hr winds, the power goes out and there are grassfires everywhere from downed lines. It doesn’t turn into tornadoes this time of year but it’s plenty dramatic.
For the days when the wind is friendlier and one of the little quirks of the area windchimes are fun. The ones I’ve made over the years drive my cats crazy and scare off the birds in my garden. Here’s a polymer version, by Laura Trevey, for inside by a window or outside. Make them to match your decor. Bells are great but you can also tie in little metal pieces, punched coins, sea shells and ceramic shards for different tunes.
