A lot good crafty ideas spring from wanting a cheaper, DIY solution to something really cool but pricey found elsewhere. This decorative faux coral tutorial, by Vidya of What’s UR Home Story, is just that. Towards the end of the tutorial she shows how she used left over polymer clay to make her own decorative faux coral.
As Vidya mentions, use wire for an armature because coral has lots of sticky out bits which can break. If you want BIGGER coral, wrap that wire with aluminum foil and masking tape to build up bulk. This also reduces how much clay you have to use and how long it has to cure for. Because the project is painted, you can use your muddiest scrap clay for this.
