Use air dry clay (or oven bake!), rolled out into thin snakes to mimic a coiled rope basket look. After your basket is dry or cured, use acrylic paint to add details.
You can use the widest circle setting on your extruder to crank out your “rope”. And you can let your basket dry in a smooth glass bowl or bake your polymer clay version in one so that the shape doesn’t slump or shift as the piece dries or cures.
Looking for air-drying clay? We highly recommend Das Air dry clay, we have been using this product for over 30 years. Check out their Das White Air drying clay and their Terracotta Air drying clay version for a natural pottery feel. For larger crafts we recommend buying your air drying clay in bulk
